Second Annual Garage Sale Eve

Tomorrow is the first day of our second annual TCA garage sale, are you ready? Just a few last minute thoughts as you ready your garage and yard for visitors.

Signs if using signs do not put on the right of way, this is the small patch of grass between the sidewalk and street, they will be removed. If placing on a neighbors lawn it is just a courtesy to ask first, if no one is home maybe take a small prepared note asking if it is ok, remove each day.

Have change and bags for shoppers, keep cash on you at all times.

Try to have 2 people in attendance, be sure to lock front doors.

TCA volunteers will be making rounds on Thursday and Friday morning with a request to pass out mini fliers to fellow TCA residents about the upcoming picnic and fall meeting.

Summer Vacation

Today is the first official day of summer vacation for Birmingham Schools, this means there will be more children out and about. In our area we have a lot of parked cars on the street so just be aware of kids on bikes and chasing balls into the streets.

Birmingham Farmers Market

The weekly Birmingham Farmers Market is in full swing each Sunday from now through the end of October. Farmers markets are a great way to support local farms and businesses and get the freshest of each season.

The market is held Sundays from 9 am to 2 pm on North Old Woodward parking lot #6 (east side of North Old Woodward, north of Harmon Street.

You will find a great selection of flowers, produce prepared foods, craft items, and live entertainment, and activities for kids.

Friends of The Baldwin Library Summer Mini Book Sale

The Friends of the Library are joining in the kickoff to summer reading with a mini book sale. This is the second such sale this year, it is a great opportunity to pick up second hand books at a great price.

The sale will be this June 17th from noom to close in the lobby of the Baldwin Library. Books range in price from less then $1.00 to $3-4 dollars, hardcovers are $2.00, softcover $1.00 and childrens books are half that price, a select few maybe over the $2.00 pricing.

The Friends of the Library has several fund raising book sales throughout the year the monies raised help to fund special events at the library including entertainment, speakers and workshops. The friends also provide technical resources to the childcare's section within the library.

Garage Sale Getting Ready

The City of Birmingham has a few rules to keep in mind when planning, signing and holding your sale.

1. You do not need a permit to have a garage sale.
2. Your sale can only be for a total of 3 days.
3. You may hold 2 sales in a calendar year.
4. Signs CANNOT be placed on the right of way on any street, this is the small strip of land between the sidewalk and the street - THEY WILL BE REMOVED.
5. Signs CANNOT be placed on telephone poles - THE WILL BE REMOVED.

TCA Community Garage Sale dates: June 23, 24, 25th, 2011. Join in any or all days at your convenience.

The TCA Online

As of spring 2011 we have opted to let the TCA website expire, while portions of this are still viewable and relevant it will no longer be updated. If there becomes a need and willing community members who are able to maintain it can be restored.

From June 2011 going forward we will work to make this blog an online resource for the TCA. You can use this for TCA happenings, events and communications. Ideas are also being considered to start a TCA Facebook Fan Page.

We will continue to deliver newsletters to your home 2-4 times a year and our meetings held in May and September at Our Shepherd Lutheran School on the second Tuesday of the month. We also host a FREE family picnic at Kenning Park each year in August, look for newsletter announcement and signs prior to this event.

Second Annual TCA Garage Sale

Spring cleaning and thinking about a garage sale this year? Join us for the 2nd annual TCA community garage sale, dates for 2011 will be Thursday June 23-Saturday June 25th, 2011. Homes east of Woodward, west of the city limits between 14 Mile and Maple will be welcome to join.

In 2010 we estimate 40 homes took part, many community members out and about getting great finds and connecting with neighbors. Shoppers expressed an interest in Thursday sales so this year it will take place over the above three days. Feel free to join in any or all of the days.

We look forward to association wide participation in this year’s event and hope that 2011 is bigger with more participating homes.

Getting ready for the sale

Those wishing to join in should arrange signs and advertisements, local papers and/or Craigslist. We are asking to have an awareness of other homes and streets to direct shoppers around our community. Many last year came and specifically asked which streets had sales going on, know this and spreading the word will help everyone. You may join in any or all of the dates, Thursday June 23rd through Saturday June 25th. The TCA will be placing ads in the Eagle to be published the week before and the week of the sale.
