TCA Citizen Letter Kenning Park

There is a significant difference between the Brother Rice proposal and the Racket Club arrangement with the City. Anyone can join the Racket Club and play tennis on their courts, whereas Brother Rice would have exclusive use of the baseball field(s) when their 3 teams have practices or games.

Another infringement on the neighborhood is the additional parking requirement for Brother Rice activities and the reduction in parking spaces with their plan that will force hockey and skating parking into the neighborhood during the majority of the year. Drive by and check out ehe evening parking now - it already overflows into the streets and the Brother Rice plan would shrink the parking lot by 52 spaces.

The City of Birmingham has no need for a full sized baseball field. To allow a private school, that is not located in the City of Birmingham, to "buy" a Birmingham park is not acceptable. Our parks are not for sale.

The Birmingham Hockey Association and the Figure Skating Club use the Ice Arena about 8 months of each year. From time to time, construction of another sheet of ice has been suggested. Such an expansion would also require additional parking and further encroach into the neighborhood.
